About SICOT

SICOT (Société Internationale de Chirurgie Orthopédique et de Traumatologie) is a non-profit association promoting the advancement of the science and art of orthopaedics and traumatology. The aim of the Congress was to promote the improvement of patient care and to foster and develop teaching, research and education internationally.

 

Rapid Recovery Satellite Symposium SICOT 2011

During the congress Biomet organised a satellite symposium that provided delegates with practical information about implementing Rapid Recovery, clinical data about anaesthesia and analgesia in enhanced recovery, and answered to the question: is it safe?

- Dr. B Kristensen: Optimizing Anaesthesia and Analgesia to Enhance Recovery

Speaker Profile

Mr D Houlihan-Burne
Mr David Houlihan-Burne is a Senior Consultant Surgeon in Trauma and Orthopedics at Hillingdon Hospital in London, UK, specialising in knee, sports injuries and trauma surgery. He is one of the early adopters of the Rapid Recovery programme. He has collected data on all relevant processes of the Rapid Recovery implementation and is able to further improve and measure the effects of the programme.

  

Dr Billy Kristensen
Dr Billy Kristensen is an anaesthetist who has extensive experience with the Rapid Recovery programme set-up in Hvidovre Hospital in Copenhagen. He works in close collaboration with Dr Husted.

Dr Kristensen will provide insight from a combination of extensive practical experience and published research. He has more than 10 years’ experience in the area of fast track surgery, regional anaesthesia and postoperative pain management. 

 

Dr H Husted
Dr Henrik Husted is Head of the Arthroplasty section at Hvidovre University Hospital in Copenhagen, Denmark. He has extensive experience in developing and implementing fast track hip and knee arthroplasty and is part of a multidisciplinary research team dedicated to improving outcome after hip and knee arthroplasty.
